Our Registry Tips & Favorites

I'm so excited to say that our registry is finished! We had a blast picking out things based on what we wanted our first home to look like and what we needed (which was a LOT of stuff.) Here are a few of my favorite items and also some tips from my experience and some of my family's suggestions to share with you!

I think Drew and I are going to go furniture thrifting soon to get a head start on looking for a few items that we can refurbish or repaint to make our own. This should be really fun! I'm hoping to find: a dresser to put our TV on, one or two throwback chairs, and maybe an ottoman//coffee table. Of course, we probably won't find it all in one day, but I'm excited to get started!

Ideas for Our First Place

This weekend has been very restful. :) Drew and I spent the day Saturday checking out apartments for us to live in once we are married. Since my current lease expires in April, I'm going to move into our new place before we get married - which gives me a chance to decorate and have it all ready before Drew moves in!! I'm really excited about having the chance to paint, style, and furnish our very first home. Since Drew and I will most likely be using a lot of handed down or thrifted furniture, I have to get creative with decorating. So... I've started brainstorming some potential ideas.

Let me know if you have any tips or suggestions!

Bridesmaids: Hues and Hems

It has been a crazy week so far! Last week, I sent out a document to my bridesmaids on what to wear including their color palette, dress inspiration photos, and a brief wedding weekend outline. I found it was really helpful to break it down into sections and send it out in a document so they can print it out or refer back to it at any time. When thinking about the look I wanted for my bridesmaids, my goals included:

1) That they not spend a ton of money.
2) I wanted to highlight and accent their individual beauty.
3) For them to enjoy what they are wearing and feel comfortable.
4) For the colors and palette to compliment each other, but not match exactly.

So, with those goals in mind, I decided that each girl would pick out her own dress from anywhere she wanted as long as it fell within the sample of colors I provided.  I also requested that it fall around knee-length and be a solid print, not patterned. I got the inspiration from the pictures above - different dresses, similar hues. From that idea, here is the sample of colors I chose:

Here are some sample dresses I showed them for inspiration:

I asked them all to send me a picture of their dress once they found it so that I could get an idea of how it was all fitting together. For their shoes, I chose these from Urban Outfitters that are a coral-red.They look beautiful up against the pale blues! And they're on sale!

I am so honored to have each of these ladies stand next to me as Drew and I commit our lives to each other. Each of them has been a special inspiration and encouragement to our relationship and I am happy to honor them each in that.

Weekend in Florida

This weekend, I traveled with Drew's family to Jacksonville, Florida, for his cousin's wedding. I love spending time with the family and it was great to get away. Some of my favorite times were watching Drew and Tyler (pictured below) play together around the hotel. My second favorite thing was sitting by the river that runs through Jacksonville. It was gorgeous and the faint smell of the beach nearby brought back fun memories of family beach trips.

I also started reading The Hunger Games -- It's awesome!! I used to read all the time for fun, but since college, I haven't really made time for it. This weekend, I picked that hobby back up and am really enjoying it.

Going to the... Barn...and We're Gonna Get Married

We chose a wedding venue last month and I wanted to share some pictures with you! It's called the Barn at High Point Farms, located just south of Chattanooga and the people who run it are wonderful! When Drew and I pulled up to the location for the first time, we automatically fell in love with it. Drew, being the outdoorsy nature-lover and me being the girl who loves natural tones and all things rustic-elegant, it fit everything we were ever hoping for in a wedding venue.

We are super excited about having an outdoor wedding at such a beautiful location. And... most importantly... there are twinkle lights inside the barn!!! Yippeeee! ;) The barn glows beautifully when the sun goes down. Very romantic, if I must say so.

The Best Parts of Life

Over the break, I was able to spend some much needed time with two of my best friends, Savannah and Anica. Since I can't always be with my family, they have acted as a second family to me throughout college and in life after. They are two people in my life who encourage me to grow in who I am and who understand my heart. I have a special friendship with both of them that I know is going to last a lifetime, no matter how far away Anica moves ;)
