inspiration board: date night

Wednesdays are wonderful. You know why? Cause every Wednesday it's date night, ya'll! Haha. But seriously, guys it's awesome. Before we got married, Drew and I started a weekly date night to make sure that we spent intentional time together. And, since intentional time is one of my love languages, I especially love it. Typically, date night consists of staying at our apartment, cooking dinner, watching a movie and//or taking a walk. But sometimes, we decide to go out on the town to scare the locals. Hah. Okay, so maybe that's only an afterthought. Or maybe it happens accidentally. I'm not telling which one.

So. Anywaysssssss. I thought in honor of date night that I would put together an inspiration board of date night ideas. Also, check out our Facebook page to tell us about your date night ideas.

1 - - Hot cocoa with your love by the fire.
2 - - Make dessert together.
3 - - Pack up a picnic and go to the park.
4 - - Have a romantic candlelight dinner outdoors.
5 - - Make a fort in the living room.
6 - - Dress up and go out on the town.
7 - - Have a glass of wine and talk about your dreams.
8 - - Go see a movie together.
9 - - Watch the sunset.

Don't forget to stop by our Facebook page to tell us your great date night ideas!

feature: sam & duke

I have with us today Sandra of Sam & Duke. I am excited to get to know her and to share her design work with you! I'm always looking for handmade gifts for the holidays and I think a piece of work from her shop would be a perfect addition.

'Sam' is the nickname I had growing up and 'Duke' is the name of my 11 year old German Shepherd.

I launched my shop earlier this year with 9 original typographical inspired prints that incorporate words with pretty images that inspire me. I am so excited that they are constantly selling out and will be creating new ones soon. I will also be adding my original works of art {in watercolours and oils} early next year. My professional background is in graphic design and offset printing, but I am returning to my fine arts roots and that will remain the focus of my shop on Sam and Duke.

That's a hard choice! I love the 'create' print but i think my favorite one is the 'love chair' print. I love the mint green color, the classic chair style and the different typefaces I used for the 'xox' is in the chair.

My inspiration for my work comes from my family and friends. My husband is a constant source of support and he motivates me to follow my heart. My closest friends inspire me, teach me, and keep me smiling. I have a two year old daughter {and a second one due in January}, so this allows me to be home with my daughters and still follow my career ambitions.  My inspiration for Sam and Duke comes from the world around me. I love all things relating to design, art, style, and life, so Sam and Duke gives me the perfect creative outlet to explore and share these things I love.

I just want to say 'thank you' to all the people who have supported and collaborated with me on Sam and Duke! I love meeting other great artists and bloggers and am having so much fun learning new things. -Sandra xox

the weekly

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! It's difficult to get back into the swing of things after such a relaxing, long weekend. We had a great time with family and then had a sweet time together on Sunday going to get our Christmas tree. After we went and got our 8 and 1/2 foot tree, we strapped it onto the top of my small Mazda and drove it carefully home. When we got there, we turned on the Christmas Pandora station, heated up some hot cocoa, and started decorating!

Now onto another busy week. I'm super excited about some upcoming things Savannah and I have planned for you here on our blogs to help get you in the holiday mood. :) Not that you really need any help if you're anything like me.

  • I haven't had a real Christmas tree since I was 10 years old.
  • I almost always remember my dreams. There is rarely a night that I don't.
  • I am 5 feet 6 inches tall.

thankful hearts

What a wonderful Thanksgiving! Drew and I headed up to my parents' house in Knoxville on Wednesday afternoon. Thursday, we spent the day with part of my side of the family eating turkey, playing with my cousin's baby, and visiting with each other. I love my family. I missed those who weren't able to make it, but was so happy to see so many.

Then, on Friday, my cousin and I worked on some Christmas crafts. My mom, grandma, and I set up the Christmas tree and decorated it, and then we had "Christmas" with my immediate family and grandparents. We have done this the past few years because my brother and sister and their families can't make it back to Knoxville on Christmas, so we celebrate it the day after Thanksgiving.

There is much to be thankful for. I am thankful for good health, a loving family, the start of a strong marriage with my best friend and husband, best friends and strong relationships, a great community, good jobs, trials and struggles that make us stronger and refine our character, for a loving and great God, for hope and joy, and many, many other things. I am thankful.

the weekly

What a beautiful week!  But, it all started with some bad news. You know how things come in threes? You don't? Well, you may find out one day soon that they do. I went to get an oil change and found out I had an 8 inch gash in one of my tires and needed to get two of them replaced. I was very thankful they caught it before the tire blew. Then, Drew's transmission in his car started being wanky and after my transmission went out on my old car 1.5 years ago, I knew by the sound of his that it wouldn't be long until the same thing happened. Then, I came home and got a bill from the hospital for $700 from Drew's emergency room visit in August. All in the same day.

You see? Things happen in threes. But, it did up being a great week. Drew found a place where he could trade in his car for a good price and we got a lightly used Ford Fiesta SES hatchback. It's really fun to drive! It turns on a dime and has really cool features like special "mood lighting", Sirius radio, and even tells us how many miles per gallon we are using. Which, speaking of, this car gets an average of 40mpg. Talk about awesome since we travel so much and live in Atlanta - the city of "it takes an hour to get anywhere"!

So this weekend we took the new Fiesta up to Highlands, North Carolina, to spend time with Drew's family. It was absolutely beautiful there. The weekend was full of hiking, wine, sitting by the fire, shopping, and family. We will be spending Thanksgiving with my side of the family, so it was great to spend this weekend together with Drew's side.

  • I love log cabin decor. The wood, deer antlers, big aztec rugs, huge stone fireplaces, and the "manly" look of things. It's so warm and cozy.
  • I prefer cooler weather like the fall and winter, because I love to snuggle up by the fire with some hot cocoa and wear lots of layers.
  • I have daily chronic migraines.
